James Maskell the Fifth
1842-1903
Edith's maternal grandfather signed his name James Maskell V. Roman numeral five. That suffix was not a flourish. It marked five generations of documented English James Maskells preceding him. He carried the line out of England, across the Atlantic, into Indiana, and served as a Civil War veteran for the new country. Born 1842, married Harriet Senseney (a young widow with a German-American Pennsylvania Dutch background) in 1867, died in Tippecanoe County in 1903. Buried Zion Cemetery.
